....and we're back!!

I was reminded of this blog by a conversation I overheard while walking with a friend on March 14, 2026 in Occoquan, VA. 

We walked past a black family and the younger person, child perhaps, in the front was wrapping up a conversation where boating had been a key feature. The boats, I could tell from her tone, were not the heroes of this story and had seemed to have earned some contempt at some point during the tale. The part I heard:

Young woman, lip curled with slight disgust: I’ve never even BEEN on a boat. 

Maternal figure: You’re not missing much. 

I walked past them and chuckled, wondering WTF could have happened that justified this exchange. I apologized to my friend for breaking our flow with a random giggle which prompted me to tell the story of this blog and how moments like this had inspired it.
